For all of you who have ever been confused about who loves who, who's married to who, and who is related to who, here are the character profiles originally outlined by ~dolphingirl0113 when she started writing "The King's Mistress". But please be aware of the fact that if you haven't yet read the story, there are spoilers galore below...so consider yourself warned.

Kagome Higurashi --> The main character of the story. She is sixteen years old when the story begins, and just arriving at the High Court of King Inuyasha for the first time. She is the sister of Kikyou and Souta Higurashi, the daughter of the Marquess, engaged to Kouga, King of the North, for most of the story, and is the eventual lover of Inuyasha.

King Inuyasha --> The hero of the story, he is the High King of the country. The son of the great King Inutaisho and Queen Izayoi, he is a half-demon who is hated by both humans and demons alike for his mixed blood, and has struggled with that his entire life. He is the younger half-brother of Sesshoumaru, the Western King, and is engaged/married to Kikyou Higurashi for most of the story. He is also eventually the lover of Kagome Higurashi.

Kikyou Higurashi --> Another main character, she is nineteen years old when the story begins. Kikyou is engaged to King Inuyasha at the beginning of the story, but she actually made her debut at court at the age of thirteen, when she had a heated affair with the nobleman Onigumo. She is the daughter of the Marquess Higurashi, sister of Kagome and Souta Higurashi, the fiancee/wife of Inuyasha, and the lover of Naraku/Onigumo.

Naraku/Onigumo --> The main villain of the story, Naraku makes his appearance when he is released from The Tower and pardoned by Inuyasha. But before he was a criminal, he was a nobleman by the name of Onigumo. Onigumo was in love with Kikyou Higurashi, was her lover, and her betrothed. But during a misunderstanding she abandoned him to the Tower, where he accepted the help of demons to survive, allowing them into his body for strength and in the end creating an alter-ego named Naraku. After his release from prison, Naraku makes it his mission to cause Kikyou's downfall and have his vengeance. He is her eventual lover.

Lord Miroku --> A supporting character, Lord Miroku is the right-hand man of King Inuyasha, and his best friend since childhood. He is always nearby when Inuyasha needs advice, and is his closest confidant. He is also a friend of Kagome Higurashi, and the eventual lover/husband of Lady Sango.

Lady Sango --> A supporting character, Lady Sango is the best friend of Kagome Higurashi, having grown up near her home. Outside of Kikyou and Yuka, she is Kagome's closest friend and confidant, and is also the eventual lover/wife of Lord Miroku.

King Kouga --> A supporting character, Kouga is ruler of the North and vassal to King Inuyasha. He is betrothed to Kagome Higurashi at the beginning of the story by Kikyou, and eventually falls in love with her.

King Sesshoumaru --> A supporting character, Sesshoumaru is ruler of the West and a vassal to King Inuyasha. He is also Inuyasha's older half-brother and son of the great King Inutaisho. He is the lover/husband of Rin.

King Bankotsu --> A supporting character, Bankotsu is ruler of the East and a vassal to King Inuyasha. He is also in love with Kagome Higurashi, though their relationship never progresses beyond friendship.

Queen Kagura --> A minor character, Kagura is ruler of the South and a vassal to King Inuyasha. While she is not purposefully a villain, she does look after her own interests first, and as such allows Naraku back into the circle of the court when he offers her riches.

Shippou --> A supporting character, Shippou is the pageboy for King Inuyasha, taken in when he was orphaned as a child. He is very close with Kagome Higurashi, seeing her as a mother figure, and is always hoping that one day she and Inuyasha will get married.

Yuka --> A supporting character, Yuka is Kagome's chief handmaiden as well as her closest confidant. She is with Kagome throughout the entire story, journeying with her to the West, the South, the East, the North, and back again. She is Kagome's strongest ally, and always willing to defend her friend. She is also the eventual lover of Gideon.

Gideon --> A minor character, Gideon is introduced towards the end of the story when he is sent to the North with messages for Kagome Higurashi. He accompanies her back to the High Court, and remains loyal to her throughout Kikyou's trial. He eventually becomes Yuka's lover, as well as Kagome's chief advisor.

Lady Ayame --> A minor character, Ayame is the childhood friend of King Kouga. She and Kouga were betrothed for most of their youth, the engagement cancelled when Kikyou arranged the match between Kouga and Kagome Higurashi. By then, Ayame had fallen in love with him, and was heartbroken. She eventually tells Kagome the truth of her feelings when the court comes to the North, and then when Kagome leaves Kouga for Inuyasha, she is there to comfort the wolf king. She eventually becomes his wife.

Marquess Higurashi --> A minor character, the Marquess Higurashi is a well-respected woman granted the right to run her household on her own after her husband's death. She is the mother of Kagome, Kikyou, and Souta Higurashi, and is always there for her children in their times of need.

Souta Higurashi --> A minor character, Souta is the son of the Marquess Higurashi, and the younger brother of Kagome and Kikyou Higurashi. He is only thirteen when he comes to court at the beginning of the story, and is supportive of both his sisters, but especially Kagome. He eventually becomes a close confidant of King Inuyasha as he gets older.
