"PASSION'S WALTZ"
Theme Chosen By:
Description: Dancing has always meant many things in every culture throughout the world. In some places, men and women dance apart, while in others they dance together to show affection. Some cultures reserved dancing for the elite, others for the strictly divine...and others still offered it to every living being on the planet. Either way, dancing has always held a major role in the custom and culture of various countries.
It was no different in mid-16th century Tudor England, which was similar to the culture of the court of Inuyasha in "The King's Mistress". Dancing was fun, light, and serious all at once. Who danced with whom was of great importance, how they danced was just as closely scrutinized, and masquerades were often the highlight of a socially driven court since who was given which part spoke volumes about a person's status in the "social pecking order".
You are to illustrate a scene that either was, or could have been, included in "The King's Mistress", involving your favorite characters dancing. It can be from a masque, or it can simply be an evening of waltzing. Pay particular attention to the expressions on the dancer's faces, if nothing else, because that always spoke volumes about a couple's feelings for each other.
Rules:
- You may illustrate any character (major or minor) from "The King's Mistress" that you like.
- You may illustrate any couple (major or minor) from "The King's Mistress" that you like. You may also illustrate any couple you wished had been pursued or real (such as Kouga/Kagome or even Bankotsu/Kagome) from the story.
- The couples must be either about to dance, in the act of dancing, or just finishing a dance, OR they must be dressed to participate in a masquerade.
- You may illustrate a scene taken directly from the story OR you may illustrate a fictitious scene you wished had been included in the story.
- The pieces can be either colored or black and white.
- Thought bubbles are not allowed, so if there is something you want paid particular attention, mention it in your notes.
- You do not have to be a member to enter the contest.
- You may enter more than once if you wish.
